BZM Picks - Tiddler By Julia Donaldson

Book: Tiddler
Author: Julia Donaldson
Illustrator: Axel Scheffler

We have been eying Tiddler for the longest time, if it is Donaldson Z will love it for sure. So finally we got it as a gift from Z's Aanie. Z was the happiest when she realized it was Tiddler.

Why I picked it and what was my Reaction: Now I don't think twice before picking a Julia Donaldson. I loved the colours, the story and the fact that it will be Z's first underwater adventure book.

The Toddler's take: She calls me 'Tiddler the Storytelling Fish', and she loves doing that. She has learned the book by heart within a month. She wants to read it multiple times in a day. Z has a Tiddler dress as well.

What it is about: It is a 'Fishy' underwater adventure about Tiddler a Storytelling Fish. A small little fish who believes in telling tall tales.

How We Read it: I narrate the story to Z, and as we go ahead and read through pages, we discuss what is happening on each page. We laugh along, and now Z reads it to me. :) Isn't it fun.

Favorite Line: "Sorry I'm late, Miss. I set off really early but..."

This is What Ms. Z is Up to

Just realized I have neglected BZM for the longest time, which ain't good. Z turned 3.5 recently (26th May) and its time for an update for sure.

We are half-way through threes and Z will be 4 in a couple of months. So you have become a 'blabber box' if I may introduce that term for you. You love to talk, and get offended if anyone of us asks you to sit quietly. Like yesterday, when we were heading to your bestie's Birthday, I told you to keep quiet, you made a face, said "Why don't you talk Mommy?". I don't know what got into my head, I said something, and you immediately said "Stop this Puck-Puck-Puck Mommy". I got the point, won't stop you from now onwards Missy.

Books still hold your interest like nothing else. You current favorite, Tiddler and Bear Feels Ill. Now that you have started blending words, you want to read EVERYTHING. This isn't possible yet, but I love your enthusiasm. You remind me of Michelle Tanner in one of the Full House episode where she is adamant to start reading.

You had your Aanie and Zeffy Bhai come over, and Boy! did you have a blast or what. Your tent was your favorite hangout with your brother, and we thanked our stars that both you and Zeffy didn't need anyone.

You have made so many new friends and I love to see you enjoy yourself when Mommy is busy in her sessions. I wouldn't have done it without you Zee-Bee... Stay like this forever.

Why do I blog?

I started my first blog in 2005; it’s going to be 10 years next year. Definitely calls for a celebration, but frankly, I feel bad that I don’t blog the way I used to back then. Not for readers or hits or likes, just for myself. I enjoyed blogging so much back then. Now I write on topics which would appeal to my target audience mostly (whenever I do write that is, and if there are readers out there, which I’d like to believe there are).

I have gone from a person writing about everything and anything, to Z to parenting to reading. If you’d ask me which one I enjoyed the most it would be the first phase for sure. There was no pretense as such (which is not there in my blog today as well). There was more soul in my writing, more passion, that is something which is missing now. Till one day out of the blue I really want to speak out or rather blog out. Today is such a day and I don’t want to give it a miss.

I like doing things which make me forget about what’s going on around me and just let me go in my own zone. Now, this coming from a person who LOVES to be in focus is kind of strange… but that’s also me. Like when I read out from a book to a bunch of kids or tell a story to a bunch of adults I love being the center of attraction and enjoy my 10 minutes of fame, it’s therapeutic. Similarly a nice haircut, a conversation with Z or Fizz and blogging is also therapeutic for me. And, I believe the reason why I blog even today, though I don’t as much as I’d like to… it is because I feel wonderful after jotting down something that is going on in my mind.

And if you are reading… Why do you blog?
